7 Different Meditation Postures to Clear your Mind

Do you sit down for meditation and doubt if you are doing it correctly? Sitting cross-legged on the floor is not the only way to meditate. There are many different postures you can meditate in, such as:

1) The Quarter Lotus

In this posture, you sit on your meditation seat with your legs crossed and both feet resting below the opposite thigh or knee. This is one of the easiest and the best postures.

2) The Half Lotus

Here, your legs are crossed with one foot resting on the opposite thigh and other foot below the opposite knee or thigh.

3) The Full Lotus

In this posture, your legs are crossed with the feet resting on the opposite thighs. This posture is difficult but is one of the most stable.

4) The Burmese Position

It’s fine if you cannot sit with your legs crossed. In this posture, sit with your both feet resting on the floor in a comfortable position.

5) Kneeling

Instead of sitting with your legs crossed you can also kneel and place a pillow or yoga props between your legs.

6) Chair

Sit on a chair and place your feet firmly on the floor and your knees bent 90 degrees, with your hands folded in your lap. A chair is a natural substitute for sitting on the floor.

7) Standing Position

Standing position is a useful position for someone who cannot sit for extended periods of time. Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart. Place your hands on the belly, right hand over left.

Benefits of sitting postures are they strengthen the back, stretch the knees, hips, ankles, and thighs. Moreover, sitting straight with your spine aligned calms the mind, reduces stress, anxiety, and minor depression. Also, it improves blood circulation and blood flow.
