It may look like there’s nothing you can do about stress, but you have a lot more control than you think. Managing stress is all about taking care of your lifestyle, thoughts, emotions, and the way you deal with problems. No matter how stressful your life seems, there are ways to relieve stress. Here are some tips to reduce stress:

Exercising regularly is one of the best ways to relax your body and mind. Moreover, exercise improves your mood. Even a 20-minute walk, run, swim or dance session in the middle of a stressful time can give an instant effect that can last for several hours. Try to include some physical activity into your everyday routine on a regular basis. Regular exercise will also improve the quality of your sleep.

Deep breathing

For a simple five to ten-minutes exercise, sit in a comfortable pose with your feet flat on the floor and hands on top of your knees. Inhale in and out gradually and deeply, focusing on your lungs as they expand fully in your chest. Though shallow breathing causes stress, deep breathing oxygenates your blood, helps center your body, and clears your mind.

Talk to someone

Just talking to somebody about how you feel can be helpful. You can talk to family members, friends, or your loved ones and share your concerns or feelings; it does help release stress. Speaking can work by either diverting you from your stressful thoughts or releasing some of the built-up pressure by discussing it. Moreover, you can also talk to yourself; it is known as self-talk. But for self-talk to help reduce the stress, you need to ensure it’s positive and not negative.

Make time for hobbies

Manage your time

At times, we all feel burdened by our to-do list, and this is a common cause of stress. Admit that you cannot do everything at one time and start to prioritize your responsibilities. Make a record of all the things that you need to do and list them in order of genuine priority. Moreover, also remember to keep buffer times to deal with unexpected and emergency tasks, and to include time for your own relaxation and well-being.

Eat well

Stress levels and a proper diet are closely connected. Eating a regular, well-balanced diet will help you feel better overall. It may also help control your moods. Your meals should be loaded with vegetables, fruits, whole grains and lean protein for energy. And don’t miss any. It’s not good for you and can put you in a bad mood, that can actually increase your stress.
